Fire broke out at a residence on Watergate Road in Lisman around 3:30 a.m. Monday. Three people were inside at the time.
Edgar Ruffin, Sr., and his wife, Sonya, managed to escape the smoke-filled house. But 33-year-old Edgar Ruffin, Jr., did not survive.
"Apparently, it looked like it started in the living room, possibly an iron or other appliance that was left on with some clothes around it," said Sheriff Tom Abate. "But, we have no idea right now, until the fire marshal's make their final determination."
Edgar Ruffin, Sr., suffered smoke inhalation and blood loss from knocking out windows.
