Meridian Police Department Media Release

The following were reported to the Meridian PD from 04-17-2014 to 04-18-2014


At 9:08 PM, on April 17, 2014, Meridian Police have responded to a strong arm robbery in the 1000 block of Bonita Lakes Circle. Officers arrived in 2 minutes and determined that an unknown b/m took the victim’s purse by force. No one was injured and the case is still under investigation.

Commercial Burglary

There were no commercial burglaries reported.

Stolen Vehicles

There were no stolen vehicles reported.

Auto Burglary

There were no auto burglaries reported.

Residential Burglary

There were no burglaries reported.


At 4:02 PM, on April 17, 2014, Meridian Police responded to shooting call in the 3200 block of 17th Street. Officers arrived in 2 minutes and found the victim 24 year old Luther Graham had been shot in the back once and then he was ran over by a vehicle. The victim’s car which was used to run over him was found a few blocks away. Several witnesses called in about a black male running on 20th Street with a gun in the 3400 block area. Meridian Police Officers and Lauderdale County Deputies responded to the area quickly. A Lauderdale County Investigator took the suspect into custody in the 3600 block of Royal Road. Luther Graham was transported to a local hospital where he passed away from his injuries. Meridian Detectives will charge 21 year old Darius A. Williams with Murder. Williams was charged by Meridian Narcotic Agents with possession of controlled substance. Williams is in the Lauderdale County Jail awaiting a Preliminary Hearing.

Meridian Police Officers responded to 5 shots fired calls. When Officers arrived on scene they were unable to locate any evidence to the support the calls.

Felony Arrest

On April 15, 2014, Meridian Detectives charged 29 year old Gerald J. Phillips with attempted murder. This arrested stemmed from a case that occurred in October 2013 where the victim was shot. Phillips bond was set at $35,000.
