Early this morning, a Meridian Police Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on an individual near Highway 39 and North Hills Street. The subject refused to stop which led to a car chase down 39, across the bypass and ending on 14th Street East where the subject lost control and wrecked his vehicle. The suspect fled into the woods but even after a lengthy search by several Meridian Officers, Highway Patrol Troop H and Deputies from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, he was able to elude them. During the car chase, shots were fired by a Meridian Officer but no one was injured.
