Commercial Burglary

There were no Commercial Burglaries reported yesterday.

Residential Burglary

Yesterday at 757 AM, Meridian Police responded to a Residential Burglary in the 700 block of Bonita Drive. The owner showed Police where entry was made through the front door and guns were stolen from the home. MPD is investigating this burglary.

Stolen Vehicle

Meridian Police are investigating a Stolen Vehicle case involving a motorcycle that occurred on Thursday on the Bypass. The victim reported someone stole his 1974 black Suzuki motorcycle after it broke down. (Ga Tag TCN-236) Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crimestoppers at 601-48-1860.

Auto Burglary

Meridian Police were called to the 4300 block of 5th Street yesterday morning at 553 AM on an Auto Burglary call. The owner showed Police were entry was made through a door and his radio stolen.

Yesterday, Meridian Police arrested 23 year old Damion B Thomas of Meridian and charged him with Commercial Burglary. This charge stems from an incident on August 11th where it’s alleged Thomas burglarized a business on North Hills Street. Bond was set at $5,000.

On September 4th, 2013, A Meridian Police Officer was on normal patrol when he stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 19 South. As the Officer contacted the driver and occupants of the vehicle, he discovered the occupants were illegal aliens. Further investigation into the matter revealed that one of the illegal aliens, 31 year old Baltazar Zuniga, had been deported from the United States by ICE in January of 2005. The cause for deportation by ICE was the conviction of Zuniga for 3 felonies committed in the state of Florida, Aggravated Assault, Burglary and Motor Vehicle Theft. By Zuniga returning to the United States, he has now been charged by ICE with the federal charge of entering the United States after deportation without permission of the Attorney General after being convicted of a felony.

This incident is another example of the Meridian Police Department working hand in hand with federal authorities, in this case ICE, to make the City of Meridian safer for its citizens.
