A sales tax referendum in Choctaw County, Ala., passed by a convincing margin in Tuesday's voting.
With all precincts reporting, the measure passed by a margin of 4,817 to 2,426.
Officials said there are roughly a couple hundred provisional ballots to be counted, but they would not affect the outcome of the voting. Those ballots will be counted Nov. 12.
The referendum authorizes the county commission to levy an additional sales tax in an amount up to two cents to be distributed to the operational fund of the county mandatory solid waste disposal program.
