Alabama state Rep. Marc Keahey of Grove Hill announced Friday that he will run for the District 22 seat left vacant by the death of Sen. Pat Lindsey.
Keahey is a Democrat and an attorney and part-time assistant district attorney, who was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006.
According to a news release from Keahey's campaign, he has been endorsed by Lindsey's children, Lori and Patrick Lindsey.
The qualifying deadline for candidates is Feb. 17. The primary election is Apr. 14, with the general election July 21. The winner will serve until the end of 2010.
