Norwood to Run for Mayor

A new contender is entering the Meridian mayor's race. Lauderdale County District 4 supervisor Joe Norwood, a Democrat, said Wednesday he will seek the office.

Norwood told Newscenter 11 that he intends to qualify for the post before the Mar. 6 deadline.

Norwood has been a county supervisor since 2002. He says an official announcement of his candidacy will be coming soon.

Two other Democrats have declared their candidacy for mayor, Percy Bland
and Casandra Sloan.

I would much rather have a reasonable person, like Mr. Norwood, be mayor than some of the unreasonable people that we have had holding public office.

He is more qualified than any other candidate who has decided to run. Best of luck to Mr. Norwood!

Bigger salary? Bigger travel budget? More hotels than a supervisor can stay in?What could he be thinking? This has got to be a joke!!!
