Candidates have until Mar. 6 at 5 p.m. to qualify to run in Mississippi municipal elections.
Primary elections are set for May 5, with runoffs May 19, as needed. The general election is June 2.
New officials will take office July 6. Their terms run to 2013.
Republican and Democratic candidates are required to pay a $10 qualifying fee, while independents must present a petition with the signatures of at least 50 voters.
