Candidates Speak to Leadership Lauderdale

A day after a televised Meridian mayoral forum, the candidates were back at it again Wednesday.

Four of the five candidates for the job, Democrats Joe Norwood, Percy Bland, and Casandra Sloan, and Republican Cheri Barry, spoke to the Leadership Lauderdale group at Union Station.

Each candidate was given several minutes to lay out their platform.

"This right here, this kind of forum, I think, can be the most powerful. These small groups where you're getting the common citizen that can ask questions and not be afraid," said Sara Carmichael of Leadership Lauderdale. "They're not in a large forum. They're not televised. And they get to really ask some questions that concern them, things about their community."

Democrat William Bond Compton, a school teacher, was not in attendance at the forum.

Have they not canned this program yet? What a joke. Amazon has "7 habits" for less than $5.00 - any and all efforts should be directed at finding new jobs.

These type forums are powerful, I agree. But shouldn't we just bring Skip on into the room and let him answer the questions directly? Since he's already in the same building let's just cut out the middleman.
