Meridian's mayoral candidates met in a forum Thursday night, sponsored by the Meridian-Lauderdale County NAACP.

Organization president, The Rev. Milton Johnson, said it's important for the public to be informed about candidates for office.

"To learn community infrastructure, jobs, workforce. We're trying to let the community know where these candidates are coming from and where they stand," Johnson said.

The primaries are May 5. There is only one Republican candidate, Cheri Barry. Four Democrats will be on the ballot, Percy Bland, William Compton, Joe Norwood and Casandra Sloan.

It will vote for Joe Norwood. Mr. Norwood really looked mayoral tonight. I live in Ward 5 and I will vote for Mr. Harris on June 2, 2009. Mr. Harris can work in Russia and governed better than Bobby Ray Smith could living in the city of meridian! The media needs to back off of this election, the people of ward 5 are smart and will choose our leader.
