A candidate running for House of Representatives officially announced his campaign Wednesday.
Robert Barfield, Sr., rallied with supporters at the Lauderdale County Courthouse.
Barfield is a retired network manager with AT&T, and served in the Marines and Air National Guard. He's senior vice-president of the USMC League.
Barfield said he'd like to help bring hobs to the state by lowering taxes.
"Meridian is my home. District 82 is my home. I've lived here all my life. And I see the situations and things that are in this city. I've bee seeing them all my life," said Barfield. "And I do believe that I can make a difference."
Barfield said he was asked by friends and family to run for the office left vacant by the death of Rep. Charles Young.
Four others are running in the June 9 special election: Roscoe Jones, Sr., John Harris, Bill Marcy, and Wilbert Jones.
