Democrat Elaine Beech won a special election for House of Representatives District 65 in Alabama Tuesday.
Beech defeated Republican candidate Jerry Reed by a 53 percent to 47 percent margin in unofficial results.
District 65 is made up of Washington County and parts of Choctaw County and Clarke County.
The term is for one year, until regular congressional elections are held in 2010.
This was a special election to fill a seat left vacant after state Rep. Marc Keahey of Grove Hill was elected to the state Senate in June.
