Beasley Denson Releases Statement on Tribal Elections

Upon review of the complaints by Vickie Rangel and Mack Jimmie that election rules were not followed during the June 14th Election, Tribal Council has overturned the results.
The Tribal Election Commission will set a date for a new election to be held within sixty days.

It was Phyllis Anderson and Kevin Edwards who forced the tie-breaking vote that I cast on this issue. Vickie Rangel and Mack Jimmie requested that the Tribal Council members who were candidates for Chief in the June 14th election not vote on the matter because they were directly involved. Phyllis and Kevin refused. If they had, the vote would have been 8-6 in favor of overturning the election. The minutes of the July 8th Tribal Council meeting show this.

I will continue to serve as Miko during this time and all Tribal government and business operations will continue as usual. My top priority will continue to be putting Chahta First and the protection of our sovereignty. Both of these things are still under attack and we will have to fight together to protect them.

Over the last week, we have gotten a glimpse of what life might be like with Phyliss Anderson and the Governor's Jackson consultants and lawyers running our Tribe. It was not a pretty sight. Chahta First was never a popular concept off the Reservation and when they thought they had defeated us, all of Jackson was celebrating.

I will not let Chahta First die. I will not let our sovereignty be chipped away to satisfy outside politicians and the coast casinos. My opponent has sold her soul and her principles to those people to put herself and her family in power. We saw that her message of unity was just a joke. Phyllis Anderson and her backers in Jackson must be stopped. They came out of hiding the day after the election and we have seen their faces. We are going to remove their influence from our democratic process and get them off our Reservation and out of our politics for good.

Thank you for everything you have done up until now. I was hopeful we would have been back to the business of making progress for our Tribe by now but, unfortunately, we still have to fight. I hope you will continue to stand with me. The soul of our Tribe, our right to manage our own affairs and our way of life depend on the outcome. Yakoki!
