Choctaw Tribal Chief Run-Off Likely

The following results are complete but unofficial:

After the votes were counted from all communities, Miko Beasley Denson was still holding onto the lead with 1539 votes. Phyliss J. Anderson was behind him with 820 votes. And Kevin J. Edwards with 725 votes is trailing just behind Anderson.

The results are not yet official and all absentee ballots still have to be counted. Once that happens the next step will become clear. A candidate can only be elected Chief, once they receive 50% of the total vote, plus 1.

Should Denson not receive the required 50% plus one vote, he will face the candidate with the second highest vote in a run-off.

Complete List of Candidates for Tribal Chief and votes received:

Phyliss J. Anderson, 820

Billy G. Chickaway, 269

Kevin J. Edwards, 725

Louis Ferris III, 25

Actually, he needed 420 more votes based on the current numbers, but they still have to count absentee votes.

If my math is correct, if Denson had received 4 more votes he would have won out-right.
