Another candidate is running for sheriff of Lauderdale County.
Lauderdale County DARE officer, Ricardo Clayton, is running for the position as an independent. He filed his qualifying papers Friday.
Clayton says he has served in the sheriff's department in several different roles.
Along with being a DARE officer, Clayton says he has worked as a deputy and investigator.
"It is something I have been interested in, as well as I've been asked," said Clayton. "And I decided this year, I would pray about it, and it was laid on my heart to do so."
Along with Clayton, Republicans Buck Roberts and current sheriff, Billy Sollie, have qualified to run.
