Dozens of Cities Miss Certification Deadline
Posted: 06/14/2013 - Mississippi's chief elections officer says numerous municipalities failed to certify their recent election results by the legal deadline.
The chief of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Beasley Denson, has conceded that he lost his race for re-election to challenger Phyliss Anderson.
Denson sent a letter to Choctaw leaders Tuesday, making the concession, and calling for the Choctaw people to rally around Anderson.
Anderson won the elections Sept. 6, defeating Denson by a margin of 2,139 to 1,602.
Anderson also won a runoff held July 5, but those results and the ballots from the regular June 14 election were tossed. Officials said there were voting irregularities in the Pearl River and Conehatta communities, and new elections were held there for tribal council as well.
