DuPree Addresses Meridian Kiwanis Club

As we creep closer to primary elections in Mississippi, candidates continue sharing their messages with groups and individuals.

Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor, spoke to the Meridian Kiwanis Club Wednesday.

DuPree said he wants to see the state become everything he believes it can be.

"Mississippi hasn't fulfilled all of the promise that it could," said DuPree. "It has much more potential than we've achieved. And I think that we have to start looking at that potential, and building on that potential. And I think it's time to do that."

There are three other Democrats in the Aug. 2 primary race with DuPree. they are Bill Luckett of Clarksdale, William Compton of Meridian, and Guy Shaw of Coffeeville.

And seven of the candidates for governor are participating in a live televised debate Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. It's being held at Mississippi College and will air on WTOK-TV.
