With election day just over a month away, two men are still standing in the race to replace Haley Barbour as Mississippi Governor.

Hattiesburg Mayor and democratic nominee Johnny DuPree has been stressing the importance of education throughout his campaign.

"Education is really where it is, that's really where it is," said DuPree Thursday as he laid out his Mississippi Educational Restructure Program.

Under the four phase plan, DuPree hopes to begin with early childhood development and teacher education as well as reducing the state tax burden on teachers to put more money in their pockets.

"We've got to be determined to pay our teachers a decent salary. If we're determined to do that, we can do it."

DuPree will be going up against current Lt. Governor Phil Bryant, who is the Republican contender in the race for governor. Election Day is November 8th.
