Meridian, Mississippi The attention has already been focused on the Ward Four City Council race after incumbent Jesse Palmer lost to Kim Houston in the primary runoff this past week.
Houston will now face Thomas Hopson in the general election on June 4th for the Ward Four seat on the Meridian City Council. Hopson says Ward Four is the most complex one in the city because of dilapidated houses and bad street conditions. Houston says Ward Four definitely needs attention, especially when it comes to cleaning out ditches on the side of the road.
"People are wanting sidewalks for the children, for the youth, so that they can travel back and forth safely," Houston says. "A lot of the sidewalks create a liability issue because of the trip and fall hazards and things of that nature."
"You know, we're right off the interstate in certain areas," Hopson says. "And you know, people come into town, they see that ward. And you know, that should be an attractive part of Meridian when you come into the city."
Houston and Hopson will appear in the second portion of Sunday's "On the Record" with John Johnson. The program airs at 5:30 p.m. on WTOK-TV.
