The Lauderdale County Democratic Party has officially endorsed Gary Houston in his run for House of Representatives, District 83.
Houston is the only Democrat in the District 83 race that will be on the ballot in November.
Houston said he welcomes the full and active support of the local party as he seeks to move District 83 in a better direction.
"We want to support education; we want to support health care, unemployment. It's important that we begin to put the constituents of House District 83 and all of Mississippians first above partisan politics," said Houston.
"Secondarily, we are here to encourage voters to not become lackadaisical; don't give up. We did the primary. We have a runoff coming," said Ted Reynolds, chairman of the Lauderdale County Democratic Party. "Of course, Rev. Houston is not involved in that runoff, but the general election is in November and we want to encourage voters to stay motivated, stay excited and get out and vote."
Houston is seeking the House seat now held by Republican Greg Snowden. Independent Sam Thompson is also seeking the office.
The District 83 race between Houston, Thompson and Snowden will be on the Nov. 8 ballot.
