Meridian businessman, Gregory Lane, announced Tuesday that he is running as a Democrat.
The position is currently held by Republican Wayman Newell.
Lane has owned his own insurance business in the city for more than thirty years.
"I'm running because I feel that my business experience and my independent nature would help allow me to help Meridian to grow," said Lane. "A new face on the board, a fresh face, fresh ideas, to help Meridian to grow."
In addition to Lane, Democrats Norbert Luster and Peter Boggan are also running.
