Primary runoff elections will be held Aug. 23 in Mississippi.
There's a runoff in the Lauderdale County tax assessor's race, between Republican incumbent Jimmy Slay and challenger James Rainey.
Rainey received the endorsement of a third GOP candidate, Van Lewis. Lewis says he believes Rainey is the man for this job.
"We are 100% committed to seeing a fresh start in the tax assessor's office, and that start is James Rainey for tax assessor," said Lewis.
"I'm looking forward to the runoff, and I want to encourage everyone to come out and please vote on August 23rd," Rainey said.
Slay has served two terms as tax assessor.
The winner of the runoff will be the next tax assessor, as there are no other party or independent candidates running.
