Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant says he is endorsing Mitt Romney for president.
The first-term Republican governor told The Associated Press he believes Romney has the best chance to defeat Democratic President Barack Obama in November.
Bryant also says he admires the job Romney did in balancing Massachusetts' budget as governor.
Bryant had supported Texas Gov. Rick Perry until Perry dropped out of the presidential race. He announced his support of Romney shortly before he was scheduled to appear with Romney at a campaign event in Pascagoula.
Mississippi's presidential primary is next week. Several other Republican statewide elected officials, including U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran and Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, were already on board with
Romney.
