Tuesday's runoff will set the stage for November showdowns in a couple of statewide races, Johnny Dupree and Bill Luckett will fight it out for the democratic nomination in the governor's race. Dupree grabbed the most votes on august the 2nd, but it wasn't enough to claim outright victory. Republican Lt. Governor Phil Bryant awaits the democratic winner in November.

The race for state treasurer has three contenders left. One will be eliminated Tuesday as Lynn Fitch and Lee Yancey face off for the republican nod. The winner of that vote will take on democrat Connie Moran in the general election.

Locally we've spent time in recent weeks previewing Lauderdale county races, but in other counties in our area there are still out-standing races.

The republican nomination is up for grabs for the vacated district 43 senate seat that serves Wayne County. In Clarke County the district 1 democratic primary has two men left, Renaldo Hopkins and Arthur nelson will face off in the runoff, and the district one democratic nod in Kemper County is also up for grabs between James Granger and Fay Moore.

Turnout for run off elections is traditionally low, election officials hope that these local and statewide races will bring voters out to the polls.
