U.S. Senate Republican Primary Too Close to Call

The race for the Republican Primary for the U.S. Senate seat between Chris McDaniel and Senator Thad Cochran is too close to call and could be headed for a runoff.

With 99% of the precincts reporting, Chris McDaniel had 49.6% of the vote, while Senator Thad Cochran had 48.9% of the vote. Candidate Thomas Carey had 1.6% of the vote. This total does not count affidavit votes and some absentee votes, which have yet to be counted.

If no candidate can reach an outright majority, a runoff election would take place on June 24th.

In Lauderdale County, Thad Cochran received 4,929 votes to Chris McDaniel's 3,867. Thomas Carey received 58 votes.
