Dozens of Cities Miss Certification Deadline
Posted: 06/14/2013 - Mississippi's chief elections officer says numerous municipalities failed to certify their recent election results by the legal deadline.
The vote certification process that follows every election is now underway.
District 3 Lauderdale County Election Commissioner Awana Simmons says they will go precinct by precinct.
"We have ten days to certify," said Simmons. "It will take longer the more affidavits you have; they have to be researched. The affidavits are handled during certification process so we will start on them this morning."
The certification process could last up to ten days, but is usually completed in a couple of days.
