Mississippi State University Riley Center for Education and Performing Arts has announced that soul and R & B singer, Aaron Neville, will be the featured performer at the grand opening weekend concerts
Sept. 8 and 9.
Linda Ronstadt, who was originally scheduled to perform, canceled all remaining 2006 tour dates after being diagnosed with a serious illness that requires surgery and an undetermined period of recovery, according to a statement released by her representatives. Details of her illness were not disclosed.
Neville is a four-time Grammy Award winner and the third of the four famous Neville Brothers of New Orleans.
Ironically, Neville gives much credit to Ronstadt for the resurgence of his career with their Grammy-winning duet, "Don't Know Much" and other collaborations. He's also known for "Tell It Like It Is".
"There were a lot of things we really liked about Aaron Neville's music, as well as his heritage, which made him a great selection to help inaugurate the opening of this center," said Dennis Sankovich, executive director of MSU Riley Center. "This is a man who has been described as a national treasure. Hearing his voice fill our intimate theatre will be a treat our patrons will not soon forget."
Anyone holding tickets to see the Friday or Saturday night, Sept. 8 or 9, performance by Linda Ronstadt will be honored for the Aaron Neville show.
Tickets are still available for the Sept. 9 performance at 8 p.m. If ticket holders who purchased tickets specifically to see Linda Ronstadt would like to exchange their tickets, the MSU Riley Center will work with patrons to accommodate their requests. They should visit the MSU Riley Center box office located at MSU-Meridian Campus or call the box office at 601-696-2200.
MSU Riley Center's temporary box office is located at the MSU-Meridian Campus on Hwy 19 North. Box office sales will be conducted from this site until the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 7.
