The Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble gave a unique performance for area school children Thursday morning.
The company also performs for the public at the MSU Riley Center Thursday evening.
The lecture presentation includes a history of ballet and of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
"We show them what we do every day, five days a week. What we do before a performance, how we prepare and a little bit of excerpts about the dances that we do," said ensemble member Brandon Perry-Russell. "We also show lighting and how that affects our performance and the mood of the audience."
"What resonates with the children is the fact that you need your technique and your discipline that the dancers show on stage in whatever your endeavors are," said director Keith Saunders.
The Dance Theatre of Harlem ensemble performs Thursday at 8 p.m., wrapping up a 10-state tour. Tickets are available at the door. The prices are $24 and $30.
