The first round of preliminary competition in Mississippi's Junior Miss program wrapped up Thursday night at Meridian's Temple Theatre. A second round takes place Friday night.
Young women from across the state are vying to represent the state.
Officials say the excitement has been building all week, not only for the girls but for the organizers.
"This is something we've been doing for a whole year," said April Luke, chairman. "We have volunteers that help and we prepare for the week all year long. It's something that we're glad to see is starting and we're ready to see what the show has got to bring."
The next Mississippi's Junior Miss will be named Saturday night at the Temple Theatre, succeeding Caitlyn Smith.
