For years, only real football fans knew who former Alcorn State wide receiver Donald Driver is. Now people all over the country do.
The Green Bay Packers receiver won the 2012 season of Dancing With the Stars.
Driver has had a long and outstanding career in the NFL, but was not a household name outside sports circles.
Now, he's the pride of many in Mississippi, because of his Alcorn State University ties.
"I didn't keep up with Dancing With The Stars. I did this past (season) because Donald Driver was on Dancing With The Stars," said Alcorn student, Ronald Turner, II. "But when they finally started telling us to, you know, get out and vote for Donald Driver; that's when the campus of course got real hyped. We threw parties."
"I think a lot of people do not know a lot about Alcorn, but the idea that he promoted it through Dancing With The Stars, and he didn't talk about it very much, but we are very proud of him," said Alcorn alum Amanda Carter.
"It basically says that, just because we're a small school, that our minds are just as set as anybody else to do anything in the world, to do bigger and better things," said Erica Turner.
Driver has played his entire 13-year career with the Packers. He played for Alcorn State in the late 90s.
