Meridian, Miss. The City of Meridian is taking steps to reduce its costs for incarceration.
The city council approved an effort Tuesday which allows city officials to place ankle bracelets on some non-violent offenders. Up to this point county officials have done this for some city offenders.
By making the change the city of Meridian is expected to save almost $20 per person.
City officials are planning to use 50 ankle bracelets to test the program.
