Beignet Breakfast Benefits United Way

A sweet aroma filled the streets of downtown Meridian Friday.

The 5th Annual Beignet Breakfast was held at Dumont Plaza.

Sponsored by the Young Professionals of Meridian, the Beignet Breakfast is a yearly fundraiser to help the United Way of East Mississippi.

"One reason we like to help the United Way is because they in turn help about 15 organizations. So, this is our way to help them help so many others underneath them,' says YPM spokesman, Fred Monsour.

The fundraiser was a huge success. In fact, the group sold out of beignets an hour early . The total amount raised is projected to be about $1,500.
