Bellamy Arrests

David Giles, 52, and his 26-year-old nephew, Shirone Giles, are charged with one count each of theft of property in Sumter County.

The charges stem from a case where tin was stolen from an abandoned house in the Bellamy Community.

'Basically they sold it to the iron, tin manufacturer locally in Demopolis, Alabama,' says Sumter County Sheriff Tyrone Clark.

Clark says the investigation into the tin theft led to information connecting the two men to other crimes dating back to at least 2008.

'There are perhaps 9, 10 or even more cases they could be connected to in Bellamy. They were just terrorizing the Bellamy Community really.'

Along with the additional charges for the two men from Bellamy, Clark says more arrests are also likely.

'Six or seven right now. It could be more.'

As for the two men now charged with theft, at least one of them is disputing the claim.

'I'm innocent! Yes,' says David Giles.

'They all say that and he is innocent until proven guilty when he goes before the judge and the court, but I have facts and evidence and what else do you need,' says Clark.

For now David and Shirone Giles remain here at the Sumter County jail. As for the other crimes they could be charged with, the sheriff says that will likely happen soon.

Sheriff Clark says the two arrests so far resulted from an anonymous tip. The number for the Sumter County tip line is (205) 652-7984. Officials say all they want is your information, not your name.
