This week will mark the end of an era in Lauderdale County. The county's last one lane bridge is set to be demolished.
The bridge is located on Smith-Spur Road in Kewanee. District 2 Supervisor, Wayman Newell, says there are a number of reasons why it has taken so long to replace the bridge.
"There were a lot of problems. It's right next to the interstate and it's had to be a state funded project. It's not a county project. So, the money had to come out of the state and we were able to secure that money within the last three months."says Newell.
The total cost for the project is $643,000. Weather permitting, Supervisor Newell says a new bridge should be open at the site within the next four months.
