Child ID Program

A local county is joining a growing effort to be better prepared for emergencies. The Kemper County Sheriff's Department is kicking off a child identification initiative. The service is free. As part of it, officials from the department help collect information for children that can be used in case it's ever needed for an emergency.

"It's set up to log all of the (child's) personal history and the body markings," says Sheriff James Moore. "We do the fingerprinting; you put in their medical history and keep up with their dental stuff, and you the parent will put a DNA sample in the pamphlet provided and keep it in a safe place in case there's ever anything that does happen that's unforeseen you'll have a starting place and will be able to identify your child."

The Kemper County Sheriff's Department is offering this free service to church groups and civic organizations. To arrange for deputies to provide this service for your group contact the Kemper County Sheriff's Department at (601) 743-2255.
