Arrests have been made in an alleged gang rape at Meridian Community College. About a week a half ago is when investigators say the crime was committed. It happened inside a student's room on Meridian Community College's campus, possibly at a party.
"From what I understand there was alcohol involved,' says Chief James Reed with the Meridian Police Department. 'So, to say whether it was a party or not, I'm certain there probably was, but the scope, the length and the breadth of the party is unknown to me.'
According to Reed, the victim and suspects in the case were all students at MCC when the incident happened.
'We were able to arrest three people. Additional warrants are out for others that may have been involved,' Reed said.
MCC officials say they are taking this matter seriously and feel that it was an isolated incident.
'I want to assure the public that when things of this nature happen we try to deal with them as firmly and expeditiously as possible,' says MCC President, Dr. Scott Elliott. 'Our commitment is to promote a safe environment for our students out there. If we even have any influences that are contrary to that goal, we again, try to address the matter as quickly as possible.'
According to officials, the three suspects arrested so far are no longer enrolled at MCC.
The names of the suspects were not released to Newscenter 11 as of Friday.
