Phone Changes to Come?

Lauderdale County officials are looking at ways to save money when it comes to making phone calls. Supervisors are examining the possibility of changing the land-line phone service for county offices. Early estimates are that the change could save Lauderdale County $114,961.20 over the next five years.

"A lot of people walk around with their cell phones where as in the past every room had to have a phone; it's not like that anymore," says Lauderdale County Administrator, Joe McCraney. "So, what we're trying to do is eliminate lines because lines cost money, and when you eliminate lines your phone cost is going to go down because we're getting charged so much a line."

Lauderdale County supervisors are expected to vote to advertise for bids for new phone equipment at their meeting Monday.
