Hattiesburg mayoral candidate Dave Ware has filed a petition of contest, challenging Mayor Johnny DuPree's victory in the June 4 mayoral election.
Ware lost by 37 votes, according to the certified election results.
The Hattiesburg American reported the petition alleges voting irregularities that include instances of disenfranchised felons voting in the election.
On the last day that he was eligible to do so, Ware filed petitions in the circuit courts of Lamar and Forrest counties.
DuPree won the absentee ballot count by 110 votes, according to the petition.
WDAM-TV reported that mayoral candidate Nathan Jordan also claims that the names of certain candidates were left off the electronic ballot in many of the voting precincts.
Jordan said when he cast his ballot at the Dixie Pine Precinct, only his name and DuPree's name were visible, and candidates Shawn O'Hara, Dave Ware, and Clyde Stewart were omitted.
Jordan is asking the courts to declare the results of the election null and void and order a new election.
