The University of Tennessee at Knoxville is accepting Adam Mayes' remains.
Mayes was accused of killing a Mississippi woman and her oldest child and then kidnapping her two younger daughters.
Last month he committed suicide and his family refused to claim his body.
Since then, Mayes' remains have been kept at the state crime lab in Jackson.
University officials in Knoxville say Mayes' body will go to one of the school's departments.
