The search is on for a third suspect in a theft ring in Kemper County.
Joshua Daw, 24, of Bailey and Johnnie Robinson, 21, from Collinsville, are both charged with burglary and larceny. The two face charges in connection with a number of thefts in the Preston area. They are accused of stealing scrap metal from residents' yards.
'They went one night and stole some stuff and then they moved some scrap metal closer to the road to come back and steal it and the next night they did come back,' says Kemper County Sheriff James Moore.
When the suspects returned to retrieve the items they were in for a surprise.
'We had officers in that area,' says Moore. 'As a matter of fact the residents that live in the area, they had a watchful eye out too. They were able to see the person and kind of hold them there until we were able to get there and get that person and the other one.'
Newscenter 11 initially reported that Daw and Robinson were arrested last Thursday night in Preston. However, Moore says Robinson was actually arrested that night, Apr. 26, and Daw was arrested May 1.
Moore says one of two suspects that night fled toward a house in the area. This prompted the search of 81-year-old Wesley Roebuck's property.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Moore says the third suspect is thought to still be in the area. Authorities expect to have him in custody soon.
'We know who the person is. It's just a matter of finding him and we will find him,' says Moore.
Right now authorities are not identifying the third suspect. Once in custody they say he will also face charges for burglary and larceny.
As for Daw and Robinson, investigators say they could also face auto burglary charges.
