Starting next week, Lauderdale County deputies will begin duty at Meridian Regional Airport.
As part of a newly signed contract, a deputy will be on duty for all outgoing flights.
Sheriff Billy Sollie said this partnership will greatly benefit his department.
"With this contract that we have with the Meridian Airport Authority this coming year, we're looking at about a $35,000 influx in money to our budget," said Sheriff Sollie. "With the budget cuts we've gone through during this session, this $35,000 will assist us in buying some equipment and possibly a vehicle."
The contract with the Sheriff's Department covers the next three years.
