The fourth Wednesday in September marks this special time where students gather together around the school flagpole for prayer.

Students at West Lauderdale High School are among those who participated.

"It is student-led so the students are the ones who plan the event and encourage others to join in with the idea that we pray for our national, our city, state, school officials and we dedicate that moment at 7:00 a.m. on a Wednesday morning in September," said Christy Wooldridge, sponsor of the
Christian Fellowship Club.

"See You at the Pole" was first organized in Burleson, Tex., in early 1990, and now, seventeen years later, the event has spread to all fifty states and around the world.

The message is a simple one, students in prayer for the well being of their schools, friends, and America.

"I think it was really cool," said seventh grader, Chase Bennett. "I encourage a lot of kids to come because you get closer to God and what you can't find in other places, you can find here at See You at the Pole."

"It's a great opportunity for people to come and pray for Christ and have Christ in their school," said ninth grader Manda Ward.

Gov. Haley Barbour also proclaimed it "See You at the Pole Day" in Mississippi. He said the state should recognize the importance of constitutional, voluntary religious activities in Mississippi schools.
