Sex Charge Filed Against Bus Driver

57-year-old Jimmy Harris lost a bid in the Democratic primary for coroner. Now he could face up to 10 years in jail for an incident that allegedly happened on his job as a driver for the West Alabama Public Transportation system.

The incident allegedly happened around 4 p.m. Aug. 3 on the road that leads to Lake Louise in York. According the woman, she and Harris were the only two on the bus when it happened.

That's when investigators say the suspect made sexual advances toward the 28-year-old mentally-challenged woman.

"She says he kept on at her and she told him 'no', and he got a little upset and put his clothes back on him," said Sheriff Johnny Hatter.

Prior to making an arrest, Hatter says his deputies spent more than two weeks investigating the case, and then made the arrest Aug. 23.

"We interviewed a couple of people that know her and know him and went from there," Hatter said.

Harris is charged with attempted sodomy. He's currently out of jail on $15,000 bond.

Newscenter 11 found Harris at his home in York but he declined to comment. His case is now set to go before an October grand jury.

Hatter said he understands Harris has been terminated from his bus driving job.
