The Lauderdale County School District hopes to generate more than a quarter of a million dollars this year from the sale of timber off its 16th Section land.

The Mississippi Forestry Commission is mandated by law to manage all 16th Section sites in the state for the benefit of schools.

"It's an additional revenue that the state itself may not be able to handle and also it relieves some tax burdens on taxpayers.”

District officials say they use the revenue generated from 16th section land to fund building projects and to buy school buses.
