The Lauderdale County Crimestoppers board Wednesday announced its annual Crimestopper of the Year award.
Cingular Wireless was recognized as a partner in the War on Crime. Cingular provides cell phones for law enforcement officers to take Crimestoppers tips.
"It's corporations like that help us in our mission of trying to prevent crime and fight crime," said Maj. Ward Calhoun. "So we're very thankful for all they've provided for the Crimestoppers organization through the years. This is one small way of thanking them for what they've done."
The board also presented awards to Calhoun and Detective Dean Harper.
Both head up the Crimestoppers programs for the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department and Meridian Police Department.
