Deputy Arrests Two in Bust

A traffic stop early Sunday morning resulted in what may be Clarke County's largest cocaine bust ever.

Sheriff Todd Kemp said Deputy Don Moore, Trooper Harrison Cook and Clarke County's K-9 dog discovered 20 pounds of powder cocaine hidden in a secret compartment in a car bumper.

Kemp said the discovery followed a routine traffic stop on Interstate 59 in Clarke County around 12:30 a.m.

Kemp estimated the street value at $500,000.

Two suspects, Homero Martinez, 23, who had a Wisconsin address, and Gabriel Rogel, 23, of North Carolina, were charged with possession of over a kilo of cocaine.

Kemp said the pair will likely have a bond hearing Tuesday.
