As a result of the vandalism this week at west Lauderdale and southeast schools, the Lauderdale County supervisors heard a suggestion Thursday from board president Craig Hitt.

He proposed the county consider a curfew for young people under the age of 18.

"Maybe we need to begin to look at the possibility of a curfew county-wide," said Hitt. "And there is one inside the city limits and I’ve gotten this copy of that ordinance that the city has and it appears that a lot of this is happening in the wee hours of the mornings."

West Lauderdale is in Hitt's District 3. Southeast is in Ray Boswell’s District 5.

The city's curfew is 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 12 midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

Hitt suggested 11 p.m. and midnight might be appropriate for the county. No action was taken.
