Officials say Rudy Walker, 43, of Monticello, died Thursday night after falling 16 feet from a tree while on a hunting trip.
Christopher Spradley, 22, of Jones County, died of injuries sustained in a fall Thursday afternoon in a separate accident at a hunting club in Jasper County. Officials say Spradley fell about 25 feet.
Maj. Steve Adcock of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, says neither of the hunters were wearing safety harnesses when they fell from tree stands.
Adcock said tree stands are the most dangerous piece of equipment a hunter can use. He said a growing number of hunters are injured in tree stand falls every year.
Adcock is urging hunters to wear harnesses to prevent injuries or death.
Lawrence County Coroner Sidney Fortenberry said Walker, who had been hunting with a friend north of Monticello on Fair River, died of a cervical spine fracture.
