The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools announced Tuesday clear accreditation status for the University of West Alabama in Livingston.
Although the SACS committee had concerns over governance issues, UWA president Dr. Richard Holland said the university received a strong report in its last reaccredidation review.
Holland credits the university community for coming together to address the issues in a swift and positive fashion. He also thanked the school's trustees, faculty and staff for their work and expressed gratitude to Gov. Bob Riley for taking a personal interest in the matter.
West Alabama was one of the first institutions in the state to be regionally accredited, and it has maintained continuous SACS accreditation since 1938.
