Meridian Mayor John Robert Smith has asked for some additions to the Mississippi special session.
Smith wrote to Gov. Barbour requesting that he include some changes to Senate Bill 3174. The bill created the Bonita Lakes Development Authority back in 1991.
Mayor Smith is seeking a food and beverage tax to help develop the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center at Bonita.
Smith said he believes the law as it stands now presents obstacles in providing funding to the center.
That request was not placed on the agenda for the special session Monday. However, local officials say they will continue to pursue this issue.
